What is Cardiac Surgical Ward?

Cardiac Surgical Ward is a 17 bedded mixed ward. Cardiac Surgical Ward specialises in heart, lung and other operations involving the chest. Admissions to this ward are normally planned, however emergency admissions are also possible, especially when trauma to the chest is involved.
Following heart surgery or other major surgery to the chest patients are transferred to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for the first 24 hours. They are then transferred back to Cardiac Surgical Ward for the rest of their care.
Pre operative assessments prior to heart and chest surgery are also carried out in this ward.

Meal times

Patients have the opportunity of ordering their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will go around the patients in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the next day.

Breakfast: 7:.30am to 8:00am
Lunch: 11:30am to 12:30pm
Dinner: 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Visiting times
Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives on the discretion of the Nursing Officer.​

To speak to the nurses on the ward, one may call on +356 25455480 or +356 25455481. Nursing staff will not give detailed medical information over the phone to protect patients’ right to confidentiality.
